A 52-year-old woman, Abioye Olusona, has been arrested in Ogun State for allegedly stealing two week-old-twin babies. The suspect, said to be a church deaconess, was arrested by the Ogun State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps at the Primary Health Centre located in Joju area of Sango-Ota, Ogun State. The Defence Public Relations Office, Kareem Olanrewaju, who confirmed the news to PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday, said the woman was caught as she took the babies to the health centre for immunization.
Mr. Olanrewaju said the hospital suspected the woman stole the babies when after routine checks, it was discovered that there was no fluid from her breast.
The Command spokesperson said the defence operatives, on being tipped by the health officials, moved to the hospital, arrested the woman and took possession of the twins. He said on interrogation, the suspect claimed to have delivered the babies last October 20 at about 4.00 a.m in Port Harcourt after registering at a private hospital called ‘Celica Hospital in Ibadan about ten months ago.
Mr. Olanrewaju said the case has been transferred from the command to Ota Division of Nigeria Police for further investigation.
